Our experts answer readers' home buying questions and write unbiased product reviews (this is how we rate mortgage loans). In some cases, we receive commissions from our partners; but our opinions are our own.
Bottom Line: PNC is a good mortgage lender if you want to explore your options because it offers more types of mortgages than most companies.
Pnc Warns That Pressures On Deposit Costs Are Likely To Intensify
PNC displays personalized mortgage rates on the website when you enter your zip code and desired loan amount. Shows interest rates for various fixed-rate and variable-rate mortgage terms, as well as interest rates on FHA and VA loans.
But be a little careful with these custom prices. PNC does not allow you to enter information such as your credit score or down payment amount at this stage and uses this information to ultimately determine your rate when you apply for pre-approval.
PNC charges some borrowing fees, but the exact fees vary depending on where you live and how much you borrow. The origination fee typically ranges from $675 to $1,240; however, FHA does not charge VA or USDA origination fees for mortgages.
PNC has more types of home loans than Bank of America; so if you need a USDA mortgage, construction loan or home loan, this would be a clear choice.
Pnc Heloc Review
You can choose Bank of America for advance payment. PNC has a $1,500 grant, but Bank of America has down payment and closing cost assistance, which often results in more money. Programs vary by state.
PNC and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation provide a variety of home loans. You will go to PNC for a USDA mortgage, HELOC, home loan or construction loan. But Fairway has reverse mortgages and renewal loans.
Fairway is a better option if you have low or no credit. Like most lenders, PNC checks your credit score to decide whether to approve your loan. However, Fairway allows you to apply with alternative credit details, such as proof that you have paid your bills on time.
PNC provides loans in all 50 US states and Washington, D.C. You can get the following types of home loans through PNC:
Here's How To Decide If You Should Refinance
If you refinance, you can choose between interest and term refinancing or liquidation refinancing. You can also facilitate the refinancing of your FHA, VA or USDA loan.
Inform PNC about applying for a PNC Host Grant. You will receive $1,500 to use for purchasing costs such as closing costs. PNC doesn't provide much information online, but you can talk to a representative about the subsidy.

Pnc Bank Checking Accounts
The Better Business Bureau gives PNC Bank an A+ rating. A good BBB rating shows that a company responds effectively to customer complaints, has honest advertising practices and is transparent about how it does business.
Despite PNC's excellent BBB rating, the bank recently had a public scandal. In 2019, PNC was accused of helping a man run a fraudulent debt relief scheme that cost customers a total of $85 million. In 2014, PNC suspected the man was carrying out a plan and closed his bank accounts. But nine months later, the bank allowed him to open more accounts.
How hard is it to get a mortgage with PNC? Bar Icon Shows an expandable tab or menu, or sometimes previous/next navigation options.
PNC offers many types of mortgages, so it can be easy to find the mortgage you qualify for. However, you must have a good credit score as it does not accept alternative forms of credit as proof that bills are paid on time. You must have a minimum credit score of 620 to qualify for a mortgage.
