What Is Aarp Medicare Gap Insurance?
You may have heard that Plan F is no longer offered or is being phased out. That is only partially true.
Medigap Supplemental Plan F is no longer available to people who were eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020. However, if you were eligible for Medicare before that date, you can still get Plan F even if you didn't sign up. If possible where you live.
The change in eligibility is the result of a 2015 bill aimed at curbing excessive health care spending and abuse of the health care system. Medigap Plan F (and Plan C) provides "first dollar coverage" for Medicare Part B services and items. This means that plan members can ignore their annual deductible. Eliminating Medigap's ability to cover the Medicare Part B annual deductible meets the bill's goals.
And because Plan F and Plan C are the only Medigap plans that cover the Medicare Part B deductible, these plans were phased out for new beneficiaries but worked for existing beneficiaries. If you already have Plan F or Plan C, you can stick with either plan.
