The basic idea is that you use the laptop as a stand-alone device when you're on the go, and when you're back at your desk, attach it to the dock to effectively turn it into a desktop computer. Macbook Air M1 Thunderbolt Dock
If you mainly use a MacBook Pro with Retina Display for your setup, this rugged dock will give you 13 connections […] you'll find two TRS audio jacks, an SD card reader, HDMI out, six USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet. and two Thunderbolt 2 ports.

But one of the things I love about USB-C is that it provides a single cable connection between my 16-inch MacBook Pro and whatever I need to connect on my desk. A single USB-C cable delivers power, video and data from my monitor. All my external drives are connected to the monitor, so just plug in a cable and I'm done.
So, we didn't have Gigabit broadband. Just, you know, because it existed. It does indeed provide gigabit speeds, but requires a wired Ethernet connection, so a second USB-C cable with an Ethernet adapter is required.
So the Brydge MacBook Vertical Dock is a different kind of dock. It does not offer any additional ports; Instead, it offers a quick, neat, and desktop-saving way to instantly connect your MacBook to a monitor. Just slide your MacBook into the dock and you're connected.
Usb C Pro Dock
As you'd expect from a Brydge product, it looks great. The color is somewhere between Apple silver and gray, so it should look good with any color MacBook. It has a rough textured finish. The sturdy metal body means it sits firmly on your desk, and the base is something you can step on when lifting the MacBook from the dock.
The dock looks equally good whether you point it to the side or end. There's a rather subtle Brydge logo on the side; at the end, a thinner Y.
Installation is painless, with an internal bushing to prevent scratches and precisely align the USB-C plugs on the bottom of the dock. The company also offers a clear adhesive port protector that you can add if you're worried about marks.
At the bottom of the dock are two USB-C pass-through ports with corresponding plugs. I just plugged the monitor and ethernet cables into the dock base and now all I do is slide it into the Mac and I'm instantly connected. Both ports on the dock support full 40 Gbps speeds, so anything you plug into the dock will work just like it would when plugged directly into your MacBook.
How To Connect More External Displays To Apple Silicon M1 Macs
Before that, I used a stupid wooden stand and manually connected the two cables every time I put the Mac on my desk. Granted, the few seconds it takes to do this isn't very high on the list of first-world problems, but I have to admit, I still like to fire up my MacBook and be done with it.
The dock is designed with fully passive air intakes and exhausts, allowing MacBook fans to do their thing. If you're currently using a Mac on a desk, it's sure to be a lot cooler than it is now. In my case, I used a passive stand and it gets a little warm on the stand, but even when I'm editing video or running X-Plane on a 49-inch monitor, it's not a big deal.
The price of the dock is $170. Considering it doesn't add any ports or features to your Mac, just saves you the hassle of manually connecting a cable or two, it definitely qualifies as a "luxury buy." But if you still don't have a stand, it also allows you to reclaim some desk space.
If your MacBook gets unusually heavy use and you want to get the most out of every little detail, in my experience you're better off with a passive horizontal stand that exposes the entire surface area of the MacBook for optimal cooling. However, for my use, there were no issues even when editing 4K video in Final Cut Pro.
