Secondary applicants must transfer at least 60 of the required 123 credits or have completed an undergraduate degree that includes nine prerequisite courses/laboratories and 10 general education courses before beginning the core nursing courses, which can be completed in as little as 16 months. Direct entry applicants who do not transfer 60 credits but meet the minimum requirements may complete these credits prior to beginning basic nursing courses. Depending on the state in which the student is enrolled or intends to complete the program, the student may require additional courses. Applications are now open for Brock University's new Bachelor of Nursing/Master of Nursing (BN/MN) program – the first of its kind in Canada.
The Concurrent BN/MN Diploma in Nursing is an innovative course-based program designed to provide students with a high-quality alternative entry into practice that incorporates a practical and theoretical approach.
Accepting applications until Sunday, March 13, the 20-month accelerated program offers students the opportunity to gain experience in five areas, including knowledge-based practice and self-regulation. An innovative approach to program structure provides students with a balance of clinical and theoretical experience.

The program combines undergraduate and graduate nursing studies, offering students the opportunity to become nursing leaders upon graduation. Graduates of the program are also eligible to write the NCLEX-RN registration exam.
The Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities approved this special program on January 28, allowing for a quick start to the turnaround in May.
"We are very excited to finally see this program come to life," says Dawn Prentice, director and professor of the graduate program. "It has been many years in the making and the journey that began with the proposal of the program in 2017 with dr. Joyce Engel, former chair and associate professor of nursing."
This wasn't the first time Prentice pioneered the program. In 2005, she was part of the team that launched the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program at Brock.

"It is incredible to relive the emotion of receiving approval from the Ministry. There is a lot of approval from stakeholders to launch the program, not including the disruptions we encountered during the pandemic," she says. "I have been able to watch the growth of the BScN program and look forward to seeing the same with the concurrent BN degree. /MN."
As the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences eagerly recruits qualified students to fill the 32 places in the new program, Dean Peter Tiidus acknowledges the hard work that has gone into delivering this program on time.
"Our staff and faculty have worked hard to bring this program to life," says Tiidus. "This program embraces Brock's excellence in transformative learning for students in and out of the classroom while addressing the ongoing nursing shortage. Our graduates are leaders in healthcare and I look forward to welcoming our first nurses to the program in 2024."
The BN/MN program welcomes students with four-year degrees to apply by Sunday, March 13. All requirements can be found on the program website.
