When manufacturing aluminum beverage cans, Ball Corporation sprays an epoxy coating into the cans before they are filled. The epoxy coating builds up over time on the air intake and tip of the nozzle used to spray the cans. Our team has developed an automated two-part cleaning system using compressed air and a linear vacuum to remove epoxy from these parts. Our system reduces machine cleaning and unloading time from twenty minutes to five machine minutes per day.
During the production of aluminum beverage cans, the inner surface is sprayed with a liquid liquid that forms a barrier between the metal and the beverage. Over time, this coating builds up on the tip of the spray nozzle, reducing the quality of the coating and increasing production costs due to manual removal. We have created an automatic solution for efficient and effective cleaning of wear deposits.
Mechanical Engineering Projects In Bhopal
The reconfigurable CubeSat Swarm project aims to reduce the complexity and cost of sending large structures into space. The team designed, developed and tested autonomous CubeSat components with reconfigurable capabilities. The reconstruction of these groups allows the creation of a modular assembly whose structure is adapted to perform different functions.
The WASP project is researching silicon wafer measurement methods unrelated to the semiconductor industry. The team developed an automated pipe transfer system installed on a test bench and a measurement system to get the best results while the pipe is moving. This measurement must be done in parallel with existing processes to minimize any flow effects on the system.
Group 5 has collaborated with Los Alamos National Laboratory to create a new security device that combines mechanical and electrical integration to protect against unauthorized access to the system. The device also features a unique rotary switch and mechanical fuse assembly in a 3-inch cube. Backed by rigorous testing, the product brings a new approach to network security.
Professional athletes often develop patellar tendinitis, a knee injury that causes severe pain. To prevent risk, daily tracking of metrics is essential. The current solutions used by the NBA Milwaukee Bucks are not portable which causes data gaps. To address this, the team developed "JOEY", a portable Bluetooth solution for continuous energy monitoring.
Awesome Engineering Projects For Kids
Quality of Life Plus partners with engineering students to create assistive technologies that change the lives of wounded heroes. Our client suffered injuries that caused severe limitations in the use of his left shoulder. We have developed a wearable prosthesis controlled by muscle sensors with linear actuators that provide power to a system of cables, restoring strength, movement and function to our client's arm.
This project focuses on the development of two devices for Sandia National Laboratories' Large Model Bonanza: a Launch Prevention Device (LPD) and a Payload Protection Device (PPD). LPD works by mechanically initiating the launch of a prototype rocket after entering a five-character signal. PPD works to record the power of the aviation system and ensure that data is maintained.
Maintaining offshore wind turbines is a logistical challenge and requires skilled professionals. To reduce service costs and improve turbine reliability, our team has partnered with Siemens Gamesa to develop a turbine service and inspection robot. This robot will increase turbine availability by living inside the turbine, taking visual data and conducting remote electrical tests and verification.
The Next Generation Cabin Window Study examines the performance of virtual windows on commercial aircraft through human engineering and psychology. After designing and building a full mockup based on the interior of a Cessna Citation CJ4 Business Jet, our brainstorming team gathered and analyzed data to provide insight into these available windows.
Senior Engineering Students Tackle Global Issues In Innovative Graduation Projects
The 11th Division worked with ARO to design a remotely piloted vehicle platform that will advance the development of an autonomous defense system for ground combatants. The purpose of this project is to drive holonomic development to investigate the possibility of using all-wheel drive to increase the capacity of vehicles in sandy, rocky terrain where the terrain is soft.
Vaginal stenosis is a condition in which the vaginal canal narrows after gynecological surgery. To prevent this, a stent can be inserted into the vagina after surgery to separate the walls of the vagina and promote proper healing. Dr. Alaniz of CU Anschutz sponsored a team of 12 people to develop a variable-diameter stent to prevent femoral stenosis in his patients.
Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are used to treat heart failure. However, all current devices require an external power source with power provided by a percutaneous drive wire. Excessive movement of the motor cable slows healing and embeds the motor cable into the subcutaneous tunnel. For this purpose, Group 13 developed an improved LVAD auto line storage system.
The 2021 CU Boulder Baja SAE team tested, developed and redesigned critical subsystems on an all-terrain vehicle built entirely by students to compete in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate Design Series . The 2021 Baja SAE competition season followed a hybrid format with skill events and a physical verification event in Tucson, AZ, which included a 4-hour endurance race.
How To Get A Job As A Mechanical Engineer
Shape memory alloys (SMA) are metals that deform when heated and return to their original shape when cooled. Group 15 was funded by Festo, a leader in the automation industry, to develop a SMA operated pin valve. Our design contractors wrapped the SMA cables by transferring current to the printed circuit board. SMA pinch valves are particularly useful in pressure-sensitive applications such as small medical devices.
Another challenge facing the manufacturing industry is the time and cost of manufacturing plugs and fixtures to secure a thin-walled part. We've improved on the previous band's design to create a custom pickup that uses a range of Halbach magnets and a band-mounting mechanism. Ferrofluid is reactive and can hold a part apart from other parts.
The reliability of satellite systems depends on accurate weather tracking and cloud tracking. To assist L3Harris with satellite tracking, our team has developed a weather station capable of providing cloud mapping with an IR camera and image fusion algorithm. The system also collects data on ambient temperature, pressure, relative humidity and wind speed.
Desktop High-Striker measures impact using a piezoelectric transducer, Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL), and Optical Measurement System (OMS). The input of the device simulates each shock like shock and is measured by a piezoelectric transducer and transmitted through a VCSEL and an OMS with an intermediate data acquisition system.
Aero Pioneers Technologies: Projects For Aeronautical And Mechanical Engineering Students
The proposed mitigation solution works to reduce the potential for worker exposure to silica dust produced at the hydraulic fracturing site. Instrumental technology measured efficiency and helped streamline the system.
Lunar dust was the biggest operational challenge for the Apollo astronauts. When we return to the Moon with Artemis and leave Mars, new technology is needed to deal with dangerous, electrified materials. Using integrated systems, the Lunar Dust Protection System (LDPS) maintains a seal around sensitive parts of Lockheed Martin's utility transfer system at all stages of operation on the Human Landing System (HLS).
This Medtronic-sponsored project uses accelerometer feedback to interpret specific vibration signals to determine the position of the internal part of a laparoscopic tightening device. The team created a prototype testing tool that replicated the device's motion and improved the linear motion detection features.
Emerson is a leading manufacturer of Coriolis mass flow meters. Our team was tasked with improving the meter's robustness to shock loads, which may occur in other applications. The voice coil driver and passive sensors have been redesigned to provide natural power without sacrificing the electrical performance required for meter performance and accuracy.
Simple Project/mission Ideas For A Sophomore Level Mechanical Engineering Design Class
We helped NIST improve their understanding of how to make accurate measurements of microwave energy with microcalorimeters. By creating a thermal simulation, we measured the error and correction factor of their current system. We then used our simulation analysis to design and manufacture a modular microcalorimeter that has more accurate connections and can be produced at a fraction of the cost.
