Getting to Sonoma County by train is now a reality for at least one leg of the trip, thanks to the new Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) rail system.
SMART transports passengers on energy-efficient, clean diesel trains 43 miles from the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport station in north Santa Rosa to Larkspur in Marina County, which offers ferry service to San Francisco (the ferry terminal is a short walk from the Larkspur stations ). SMART trains comply with ADA requirements to be accessible to passengers with disabilities.
