24 Pet Vet Near Me - If your pet has an emergency, you don't want to waste time driving to find an emergency animal hospital that's open. Inevitably, our pets always have emergencies at night, on holidays and on weekends!
Pet owners in the Pittsburgh area are fortunate to have a long list of urgent care animal hospitals to choose from.
24 Pet Vet Near Me
If your dog has an accident, eats something poisonous, or is sick, you need to seek emergency care or a 24-hour vet in Pittsburgh. Many of the offices on this list accept emergencies during their hours of operation, but it's always a good idea to call first so the doctors and veterinary technicians can prepare what your pet needs.
Emergency Veterinary Care In Baltimore
I recently became certified in Pet First Aid and CPR through a class at Animal Friends. Course instructor, Karen Sable, shared a list of Pittsburgh-area emergency vets and 24/7 animal hospitals.
He showed how lucky we are to have so many options in Western Pennsylvania. I have been raising dogs for over 20 years and have lived in Pittsburgh all my life and I had no idea there were so many emergency vet clinics so close by!
This information can save lives. I hope you will bookmark this list or save some emergency clinic phone numbers in your contacts. This list includes 5 emergency veterinary clinics that are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!
Depending on where you live in the Pittsburgh area, one of the veterinary hospitals in surrounding communities such as Morgantown or Wheeling, WV may be closest to you. Every facility on this list can be counted on for their compassionate care during an emergency.
Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center
When I talk to other Pittsburgh pet parents, Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (PVSEC) on Camp Horn Road and Allegheny Veterinary Emergency Injury & Specialty (AVETS) in Monroeville are the most talked about emergency vets.
These emergency veterinary clinics treat all types of injuries and are available for surgery or overnight observation. They also provide some of the best specialty care in our area with veterinary oncologists, cardiologists, neurologists and more.
As of 2022, both PVSEC locations have been acquired by Blue Pearl, a national network of specialty and emergency pet hospitals.
Blue Pearl is owned by Mars Veterinary Health, which also owns Banfield and VCA Animal Hospitals. Of course, Mars Veterinary Health is part of the larger Mars Petcare family, which owns Greenies, Iams, Nutro, Pedigree and other brands. They also own pet tech brands like Wisdom Panel DNA testing and Whistle (you can hear my interview with Whistle CEO Colette Bunton on my podcast).
Feather & Fur Animal Hospital
In my opinion, these practices owned by Mars Vet Health have a lot of resources and technology at their fingertips. They may have more opportunities to upgrade equipment and access to the latest research and advanced training for their employees.
But on the other hand, I think there is a disconnect between some of the food brands they represent and the standard of hygiene I want my vet to recommend. So, take this information however you feel. But if you see your vet frequently recommending Mars Petcare products, I would question it.
For some pet emergencies, your regular vet can handle it. Some of the veterinary practices below accept routine appointments for preventive care, while others specialize in emergencies.
Find practices near you and see what services they offer now, so you're prepared in case of an emergency with your dog, cat or other small pet.
Veterinarian Answering Service And Call Back With Smith.ai
In the Pittsburgh community, pet parents are very fortunate to have many options when it comes to emergency veterinary care!
While I'm sure you'll never need a 24-hour vet in Pittsburgh, having this list of emergency vet clinics at your fingertips could save your pet's life! But, it is always best to avoid an emergency vet visit.
Another preventative measure is simply locking away cleaning supplies, medications, and food. This can prevent many accidents affecting your pet's health and safety.
Along with the wonderful resource of emergency vets in our area, you should also keep contact information for the 2 animal poison control hotlines I know about in my Pet First Aid & CPR certification.
Cairns Emergency Vets
Both of these numbers are answered 24/7/365 for advice on animal poisoning emergencies. There is a fee associated with the calls, but it is much less than going to the emergency room. The fee for the call will cover any follow-up needed at your regular vet or emergency clinic.

A great place to take your pet in an emergency when all other vet clinics are closed! Not only did they save the life of my 12 year old cat with pancreatitis, but they did it with compassion and gentleness. I knew she was getting the best care possible, and that was a comfort to me during such a difficult time. It's wonderful to be able to bring my beloved pet home again! Thank you to each and every one of you for taking care of my little girl!
Emergency Dog Vet
Taylor is amazing! She helped me with my puppy at 5am, was calm and had great customer service!
My puppy was well taken care of and the prices were very reasonable. Would recommend this place to everyone!
I want to start this by thanking the wonderful people who tried to save my puppy's life. Lily is an amazing puppy and I wish they didn't have to date her with Parvo. She was a playful bundle of joy. I really appreciate you trying to save her life. I appreciate the late night phone call trying to get her to drink water. The staff was very kind and understanding. The doctor, (I don't remember his name) was a very nice person and very easy to talk to. I could hear in his voice that it was not easy for him to say that Lily had passed away. I appreciate the time you spent with her trying to keep her alive and I appreciate the time you took to call that she was dead. It was not easy for me to write this review because I was in tears. I cremated Lily with Pet Emergency and they gave me a nice keepsake box and a paw print of her lovely little paw. Thanks a lot guys!
Amazing!! Dr. Ellingson performed emergency surgery on our dog on December 23, 2020. We don't know if he will last even a month, but after 4 months he is healthy. I highly recommend Pet Emergency Center and Dr. Ellingson and the staff at Reserve Street.
Dog And Cat Vet Clinic
I can't say enough positive things about the team at Pet Emergency Center. My dog Scout has been unwell for a few weeks, but our primary vet has assured us that she is fine and on the mend. Scout declined rapidly last weekend and needed to be seen immediately. Dr. Montrose took the situation seriously and treated Scout with care and compassion. I have had negative experiences with pet hospitals in the past and my worst fear was that Scout would die alone in a cage. Fortunately, Dr. Montross and his team kept in touch with us, not only updating us on his health, but on his impact ("He woke up to greet the vet tech. This morning he chewed on a bunny toy.") They were very reassuring and their tone showed that they are also invested in Scouting. I could say. They were also very patient with us and didn't mind calling us (several times at all hours of the night) to check on Scout. Special thanks to Tyler for calling not only from me, but also from Scout's grandparents (can you tell how much this dog is loved?) I am happy to report that Scout is doing well and is now fast asleep at my feet. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are all lifesavers (literally).
I took my precious cat to see Dr. Ellingson around 8pm. Emily, Eric, and the doctor all talked to me at some point. They are caring, professional and efficient. When I had to wait in the car because of covid worries,
