Today I'm putting together the ultimate college shoe guide -- and you'll be surprised at how few shoes you actually need.
Good Shoes For College Students
I have to say I love the shoes. Even coming up with just five pairs for this list seems crazy! But after thinking hard about what I - and you - really need, I've finally narrowed it down.

Think of it as a college shoe capsule wardrobe. These five styles should cover every college situation, from classes to job interviews.

It's tempting to throw money at all kinds of shoes, but if you have these few pairs, you won't need more. So without further ado, here are five pairs of shoes every college needs in her closet:

Why College Students Should Start Running Every Day
Choosing casual shoes to wear every day to class can be difficult, so here are three essentials to keep in mind when shopping for your everyday shoes for college:
Casual sneakers are my #1 shoe choice – they're the most comfortable option, work in any weather and season, and go with any outfit! You can't go wrong with a pair of sneakers for walking around campus, and they're the ultimate shoe when you don't know what else to wear.
Some great casual sneaker styles include the classic Nike Air Force 1, the Converse Chuck Taylor High-Low (the pair above has a chunky platform for a cool touch), the New Balance Lifestyle, the Superga Cotu, and the Wet. . , which is sustainable.

Flat sandals, slides and mules are ideal when you're running late for class. If you've snoozed your alarm too many times and don't even have time to tie your laces, slip-ons will be your saving grace. A pair of neutral TOMS flat mules are ultra-versatile and have a polished look, while Birkenstock Arizona sandals are classic, comfortable and durable.
Birkenstock Boston clogs are a major fashion trend this year (you've no doubt seen them on Instagram and on the feet of Emma Chamberlain and Kendall Jenner), and they're perfect for everyday wear. They go with everything from jeans to sweatpants and are super easy and quick to put on. Plus, you can wear them almost all year round with socks when it gets colder, making them a solid investment.
Loafers are another big trend right now, especially chunky, wedged or wedged pairs (which, BTW, make them sturdier and perfect for walking around campus). They look super stylish with all kinds of outfits and can be worn alone, with socks or tights. I'd recommend opting for a classic black pair with sleek metallic detailing for a modern and classic vibe.
Finally, combat boots are another great everyday shoe option because they work in both sunny and rainy weather and are extremely durable. They have a slightly edgy feel that will spice up your outfits, but are still a classic choice that never goes out of style.

Whether you're going to brunch or happy hour, shopping for your next formal, or hanging out with friends, you need a cute pair of shoes that you can wear to daytime events outside of class.
Think lightweight materials, neutral colors and heels you can walk in comfortably. While I'm all for fun trends and bright colors (barbecue pink and Bottega green are at the top of the list right now), neutral colors will serve you best, especially if you're limiting the number of shoes you bring. college.
That's why I recommend choosing black, white, beige, gray and brown shoes because these colors will go with most of your outfits. However, you can still choose on-trend accents like woven details, metallic studs and strappy silhouettes to give your shoes personality and style appeal.

College tends to be more casual (and involves more walking) given the many heel heights and daytime events. A heel of about two to three inches is perfect for daytime wear, giving you just the right height without making it difficult to walk.
I especially love block and wedge heels, because who really likes trying to balance them in stilettos? These heels are more comfortable and work with everything from skirts to jeans. Flatforms are another comfortable option, like these low-heel espadrilles with flat platform braids and single straps.
When the fall and winter season rolls around, block heel or wedge ankle boots are your best bet.
The suede pair above (comes in a variety of neutral colors) has a chunky wedge sole just three inches below that can be dressed up or down. Wear them with jeans and a sweater for a casual look or dress them up with a skirt and tights. The best part of these slippers? They're waterproof, so you don't have to worry about ruining them in the rain while you're out for brunch!

For internships or potential new jobs, there's a good chance you'll have to interview for your chosen career path. And while the pandemic has brought remote work and Skype and Zoom interviews (when you can wear a professional-looking shirt on top and sweatpants and fuzzy socks underneath), meetings and in-person work have started to pick up again. Again, this means you'll need a pair of professional shoes.
Of course, you need to determine the job or internship you are applying for and what the workplace culture is like. But even if it's a casual work environment, you'll want to make a good first impression with a polished look with some classic shoes.
For a dressier look that might be found in a conservative industry with a strict dress code, some closed-toe shoes are a traditional choice. Make sure you choose a pair that you can step into with confidence, because you don't want to trip or wobble on your way to the office! For this reason, I would recommend keeping your heel height around two to three inches, but you can determine what works best for you.

If you don't like heels, go for pumps or moccasins, which, as mentioned earlier, will be a major fashion trend this season. Consider loafers with soles that don't
Still, still or over the top, just play it safe. You really can't go wrong with a classic-looking loafer that goes with just about any workplace, versus a trendier pair with a bolder silhouette.
Apartments are another smart option. They look more stylish and are generally more comfortable than heels. Try a pair with a pointy toe, which adds a polished, professional vibe. If you're willing to invest in a timeless pair that will give you years of wear, try flats like the Rathi, which are ultra-lightweight and 100% machine washable (so you can keep them fresh for longer!)
Whatever you wear, it's important to remember that less is more in a professional setting, unless of course you work somewhere with a focus on fashion.

Well, I'd like to think that you'll have countless opportunities to wear fancy heels, but in reality, you might only wear them a few times a semester. But anyway, you need something,
Anything goes in this category: whatever your style and makes you feel fierce on a night out! You can wear low heels or high heels or no heels at all. As I said earlier, block and wedge heels, flared heels, and platforms tend to be my favorite types.
