First Time Drivers Insurance
Based on 18-year-old male students, the team collected sample quotes from 50+ UK car insurance companies. The results showed that of these, the least expensive car insurance for young drivers was general accident (GA) insurance. Overall the data showed that GA was on average 62% cheaper than the average of all quotes collected by a young driver and 18% cheaper than the 3 cheapest car insurance quotes for a young driver.
Some brands come from the UK's biggest car insurance companies – for example, General Accident is part of Aviva and both Churchill and Privilege are part of Direct Line. You will find that these major car insurance companies may not compete on rates for new drivers with their standard car insurance or parent company brands (such as Aviva or Direct Line) but may have offers for similar products (for example General Accident or Privilege). .

In these cities, the average cost of GA for a young driver was £1,569, which was around 63% lower than the average cost of all insurers in our research.
If you live in any of these areas, GA may be your best bet for affordable insurance. However, More Than Smart Wheels, Churchill Drives and Ingenie were also competitive car insurance options for young drivers, the second, third and fourth cheapest car insurance for young drivers in the North of England respectively.
General Accident was also cheap car insurance for young drivers for those in the Southwest or Southeast In London and Bristol, prices from GA for our sample of young drivers were £1,027 and £991 respectively.
